Tour Details

We meet up at The Coastal Steamer Terminal (main entrance). Here, we start our March of the Trolls through Bergen – The Gateway to the Fjords. (To get into troll mood, just listen to The March of the Trolls – a dynamic masterpiece by our very own Edvard Grieg.)

Our first stop will be at the facsimile of the painting The Psychologist’s Dog by Oddvar Torsheim – himself one of the greatest artists of Fjord Norway. A few steps further, we can witness a secret treasure – the tiny local Walk of Fame on which Sir Paul McCartney received a star upon recently (he visited Bergen in 2016).

Now it is about time to take the stony flight of stairs to our 1st unofficial viewing platform. Our path leads us further past by refurbished colorful period houses before we are reaching the impressive St. John’s Church (Johanneskirken); a Lutheran church built in 1897. The chances are great that we run into the reverend, the organist, or the custodian.

Following our church experience, we are in for an extended walk: we pass by The Seafarers’ Museum, The Botanical Garden, and several university buildings. We are making an elaborate stop right in front of House Villaveien One, the former majestic home of a wealthy Bergen family for a period of 118 years. A stone’s throw away, the imposing Museum of Natural Sciences is located. In 1825, the museum was founded by Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie, himself an influential signee of the still-in-force Norwegian Constitution (Grunnlov). Christies gate – the street named after him is taking us to The Square of Festivities (Festplassen). On this square, the locals annually celebrate National Day. The backdrop is being beautifully formed by Mount Fløien – with its world-renowned Funicular (Fløibanen) leading up to the amazing viewing platform (320 meters above sea level). Listen to INSIDER Anecdotes by your personal tour guide until our March of the Trolls ends at the buzzing Fish Market (Fisketorget).

  • The outdoor fish market (featuring ALL booths) is open annually from May 1st till August 31st.
  • The neighboring indoor fish market is open all year round.
  • Both markets are open Monday to Sunday.
